Update 06-Jul-2020

The Fitz has re-opened in a limited capacity, in accordance with Phase 3 of the Commonwealth’s reopening plan. Capacity of our rooms has been reduced, but we are taking facility rentals and holding outdoor events. Our facility is being sanitized before and after each event.

Update 12-Jun-2020

The Fitz will be reopening with Phase 3 of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ reopening plan. This is currently scheduled for July 6.

We currently accepting facility reservations for dates after July 6, however we are continuing to suspend on-site programming until the fall.

Update 05-May-2020

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during these continued uncertain times. While everyone at The Fitz is eager to fulfill our mission of offering arts, education, and recreation programs for our community, we are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all above anything else.

After several weeks of discussion, we have decided to suspend all activities through the summer of 2020. The decision to remain closed is based on current restrictions put in place by the commonwealth and our desire to ensure we provide a fun, safe, healthy, and enriching experience for our attendees. Our Board of Directors believes we will not be able to operate in a way that would provide everyone a fulfilling experience. Additionally, we feel that the risk to attendees and staff (even with the increased sanitation, social distancing and diminished capacity) to be too great. This decision is heartfelt and we look forward to welcoming you to The Fitz when we’re able to open our doors once again.

Update 06-Apr-2020

The Fitz will remain closed at least until Sunday, May 10. This may be extended based upon recommendations and/or orders from state and local government.

At this time, we are still accepting registrations for our Summer Programs, which as slated to begin the last week of June.

Update 23-Mar-2020

At this time, The Fitz remains closed. All activities and programs scheduled to start in March and April have been postponed.

All restrooms, door handles, and common contact surfaces have been disinfected. Only our facilities manager has been permitted inside the building to perform routine cleaning and building maintenance. No other staff have been permitted inside in order to ensure the facility remains clean.

Once the Governor lifts the ban on gatherings, we will announce new dates for impacted events.

Thank you.

Our team has been working hard to ensure The Fitz responds thoughtfully and appropriately to the rapidly evolving situation surrounding COVID-19 / Coronavirus.

On March 10, Governor Baker declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts. The health and safety of our community is our highest priority, and in order to help protect our staff and mitigate the spread of coronavirus, we are taking the following measures:

  • The Lads and Ladies dance, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14, has been postponed. All existing tickets will be honored on a future date. We will be announcing a new date soon.
  • Large group gatherings (>30 people) inside The Fitz will be limited, at least through the month of March.
  • Our staff will continue to routinely clean and disinfect contact surfaces, per CDC guidelines.
  • All small-group instruction and summer enrichment programs are continuing as scheduled.

I want to thank our Board of Directors for their diligence and support in ensuring we do what’s best for our community. We do not take these decisions lightly and understand the impact and disappointment created when events are postponed or cancelled.

We will continue to update this page with updates throughout the coming days and weeks.
