SUMMARY:Beginner Guitar (Ages 15+)
DESCRIPTION:Join our beginning guitar class and get hooked on guitar! Students will need their own acoustic guitars – they’ll be learning simple chords and songs in no time. Level 1 classes begin with an introductory section for 8 weeks. Students may then continue and register for an additional 8 weeks.  \nThis program grows into the a Level 2 and 3 classes meet for 16 weeks and explore more advanced chord fingerings and a broader repertoire of material. Levels 4 and 5 also meet for 16 weeks\, and incorporate songwriting with guitar instruction. As students advance\, they can transition at any time to private lessons. \nStudents must have a guitar for the class – and for practicing! We recommend purchasing a guitar\, since buying a beginner-level instrument is nearly the same cost as renting. These are quality instruments that are a good investment and can be used for years.

DESCRIPTION:Have a child who is drawn to the ukulele? Introduce the Ukulele! The Ukulele is amazingly suitable for children. They are small and fairly inexpensive and even better\, they are fairly easy to learn to play. Within a few minutes a child with the finger dexterity to press the strings firmly against the fingerboard can learn their first chord and play a couple of Nursery Rhymes they are already familiar with. The Ukulele is very portable\, it only has four strings. It’s Perfect for the beginner.  \nStudents should come to the first class with their own Ukulele.  \nNote:\nClasses are Fridays\, April 3 – May 29. No class April 24.

DESCRIPTION:This is the practical application and technique of the working songwriter. Melody\, lyrics\, “hooks\,” points of view and song logic will be covered. Solo writing as well as the concept of collaboration are introduced. Participants will work individually and in small groups.  \nObjectives \n\nLearn and employ both conventional and unconventional song structures.\nEstablish the difference between simple expression and communication through song\, and how to establish a musical dialogue with the listener.\nThe fundamentals of lyric writing through the usage of rhyme and meter.\nEmploying various writing devices to help make a song more effective – POV\, object writing\, tension and release\, prosody.\nHow to use technology to organize your thoughts and help complete a song.\nHow and when to employ “loops”.\nCharting your songs using the “Number System”.\nThe symbiotic relationship between live performance\, studio production\, and modern songwriting.\n\nNote: Course meets Wednesdays April 1 – May 13\, no class April 22.
