The Fitzpatrick Collaborative is a Pepperell-based 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization on a mission to rebuild, maintain, and manage the former Peter Fitzpatrick School as a center for arts, education, and recreation. We are embarking on the first of a multi-phase plan to restore the building and grounds and are seeking the community’s support to help us reach these goals.

Our first phase of improvement is the restoration of the Big Backyard Playground, which is located behind the Peter Fitzpatrick building. The existing playground was installed in 2001, but has been closed since 2017. There are several slides and structures that require repair and, in some cases, total replacement. The playground is in need of landscaping, walkway repair, mulch, and ongoing maintenance. The estimated cost of making the playground safe for use is $10,000. We hope to exceed this amount, so that we can further enhance the area, elevating it from a great school-age playground to a multi-dimensional community space that can be enjoyed by families of all ages and abilities.

Additional projects include, but are not limited to: the addition of inclusive playground features, expanded seating and picnic areas, improved lighting and, pending town approval, video surveillance of the area. The playground will be open to the public during daylight hours and provides a fantastic opportunity to attract residents from surrounding communities to our area.
