Beginner Hip-Hop (Ages 9 & Up)

This class will introduce students to the history of Hip-Hop culture with basic moves for the novice dancer. The style encompasses the movements of break-dancing and body- popping with a concentration on footwork.Clothes for hip hop class should be loose and comfortable. You can wear any kind of shirt or tank top. Long sweatpants are the best option: it's better not to expose the knees, especially if you want to breakdance. Songwriting Workshop (Age 15+)

This is the practical application and technique of the working songwriter. Melody, lyrics, “hooks,” points of view and song logic will be covered. Solo writing as well as the concept of collaboration are introduced. Participants will work individually and in small groups. Objectives Learn and employ both conventional and unconventional song structures. Establish the difference between simple expression and communication through song, and how to establish a musical dialogue with the listener.
